“You Go Where We Go” – goLIVEmiami

It is an uncommon occurrence in the Electronic Dance Music scene to find an artist sensationally talented as both a DJ and a producer. Cedric Gervais is of the rare breed whose talents behind the decks translate over into the production room. For years he has captivated clubbers and partygoers as he reigned supreme over the Miami dance scene. Although originally born in Marseilles, Cedric Gervais has chosen Miami as his adopted home, and the city has been more than happy to embrace him. He has held residencies at Crobar (now Cameo) and the world famous Nikki Beach, before taking over the Space Terrace. Cedric’s presence at the Space Terrace was felt immediately as people in the thousands began lining up to witness him devastate the after-hours scene. Despite being in such heavy demand, Cedric still found time to take his talents into the studio. His first single with Ultra Records, “Burning” was a great success on both the charts and the underground circuit. Soon after, he unleashed his debut album “The Experiment”, which featured the massive hit, “Spirit in My Life”. The album took him to a different level as he spent the next couple of years touring the world, entertaining and thrilling his many fans. His production credits include working with the likes of Lenny Kravitz, Deep Dish, Steve Lawler, and Rachel Star, just to name a few. Whilst maintaining a hectic tour schedule, Cedric has managed to both continue his residency at Space and spend plenty of time in the production room. His latest single, “Mauri’s Dream”, was Pete Tong’s Essential Tune of the Week three weeks in a row, and has received great critical acclaim from both DJs and producers. Many consider it to be one of the best, if not the best song revealed at the 2009 Winter Music Conference. It will be hard for any producer to top “Mauri’s Dream”, but tantalizingly enough, Cedric has expressed that “Mauri’s Dream” is just the beginning of what should be a string of smash hit releases. Currently, Cedric is working on his highly anticipated second album, “Miamication”; which is scheduled for release later this summer. He is working closely with Sharam (of Deep Dish fame) and the duo already had a monster record together, entitled, “U Don’t Even Know Us”, under the moniker, Sharvais. Cedric has also just relaunched his two record labels, Sleaze Records and SleazeTech. Having undergone major makeovers, the two labels are ready to take the Electronic Dance Music world by storm. Sleaze Records will specialize in house music and SleazeTech will focus on Techno and Minimal. Both labels are set to begin a heavy release schedule with the first set of releases coming in the end of April. With a host of new talent signed to the two labels, it is only a matter of time before Cedric propels them both to the top. Very few have managed to enjoy the kind of success Cedric Gervais has worked hard to achieve in such a short span of time. The scary, yet enthralling aspect about Cedric’s career is that it has yet to reach it peak. Although it would be cliché to say the future is bright for this young star, it is nevertheless true. No one can be sure what is in store for Cedric, but what can be certain is his impact will be one that will be felt for generations to come.

“You Go Where We Go” – goLIVEmiami

Art Wynwood took place on President’s Day Weekend, February 16 – 20th, 2012. Held in the spacious 100,000-square-foot Art Miami Pavilion, which attracted more than 55,000 attendees during the 2011 edition of Art Miami, the inaugural five-day International Contemporary Art Fair will showcase a compelling array of cutting-edge, contemporary and modern artwork by both emerging and established artists from more than 50 galleries, including “the flying murals of Wynwood” commissioned by the district’s own Tony Goldman.

Art Wynwood featured paintings, photography, sculpture, art video and new media, conceptual art and urban street art by 500 artists from 13 countries: Argentina, Austria, Canada, China, France, Germany, Ireland, Mexico, Spain, the Netherlands, Venezuela, United Kingdom and the United States. With representation from 100 cities from around the world, including 50 across the U.S., Art Wynwood will further distinguish the Wynwood Arts District as a leading cultural destination for acquiring contemporary art. A VIP Private Preview was held in celebration of the opening on Thursday, February 16, 2012.

“This is a very exciting time and opportunity for the Wynwood Arts District, as well as Miami, our organization, exhibitors and the international community of art collectors who vacation or call South Florida home during President’s Day Weekend,” said Nick Korniloff, Director and Partner of Art Wynwood. “Art Wynwood will further ignite the Wynwood Arts District urban revitalization by providing a high quality, standalone International Contemporary Art Fair that will garner international recognition for the district and deliver a positive economic impact for many years to come.”

Capturing the essence of what the Wynwood Arts District and the Miami Art scene have to offer is paramount. Notably, Tony Goldman, who has been a driving force in the evolution of the arts and warehouse district of Wynwood, will exhibit what he describes as “the flying murals of Wynwood” in the fair’s VIP Lounge. Under his guidance, six 8′ x 24′ murals by international artists, including a Retna work from the Janet and Tony Goldman Collection, an existing piece from How & Nosm, as well as new murals from DAZE, Aiko and Futura, will be installed. Goldman will also be an integral part of Art Wynwood’s soon-to-be-announced host committee, which will be comprised of industry leaders in the art, design and media worlds from Miami and beyond. He states, “We applaud the organizers of Art Wynwood for their decision to launch a new art fair in Miami next month. This is a wonderful example of how Miami – and specifically Wynwood – has evolved into a year round arts destination. I think I speak on behalf of the entire Wynwood community in welcoming and supporting Art Wynwood.”

Kidney Walk to Help 2 million Floridians Suffering from Kidney Disease

The National Kidney Foundation of Florida invites South Floridians, their friends and families to join in the 2012 Miami Kidney Walk, presented by All-Med Services of Florida, Inc. A fun, non-competitive 5K event that raises funds and helps create awareness to fight kidney disease. With more than 80 walk teams already signed up, excitement is building as the Miami Kidney Walk gets closer to its goal of raising $175,000 to help more than 2 million Floridians suffering from chronic kidney disease.

This year, Dr. Victor Valdes, Medical Director at All-Med Services of Florida and avid advocate in the renal care community in South Florida, serves as Corporate Chairman of the Miami Kidney Walk.

The 2012 Miami Kidney Walk will take place this coming Sunday, February 19th, at Bayfront Park, Downtown Miami. Registration begins at 8:30am; walk begins at 10:00am. The Miami Kidney Walk is sure to create an even greater awareness of kidney disease this year. It is sure to be bigger and better than ever with the appearance of multifaceted entertainer and Hip-Hop artist “David Rush”, as this year’s Miami Kidney Walk Celebrity Chair!

Four years ago David Rush, born David Petterson, was told he was suffering from Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS). Once diagnosed RUSH was able to take his dialysis “on the road” and tour with renowned hip hop artist Pitbull. “It’s the hardest tat (tattoo) I ever got in my life. The entertainer and Hip-hop artist feels reborn. I wear the scar with so much pride,” “My life has changed. I’m born again.” Says Rush. He praises his half-brother and best friend, Dwaine Haskins, 38, for donating his right kidney to him. He considers November 9, 2010 his second birthday — the day the he underwent his kidney transplant. Fortunately for RUSH, his brother Dwaine a.k.a. “Monsta” was a perfect kidney match.

Rush is currently signed to international Hip Hop star Pitbull’s Mr. 305 imprint, and is the mastermind behind his own 2009 hit remix “Shooting Star” featuring Pitbull, Kevin Rudolf and LMFAO, as well as Pitbull’s popular hit “Go Girl.” Despite suffering from kidney failure and doing dialysis for several hours each week, RUSH joined Pitbull’s 2009 nationwide Rebelution tour, and gained his own fan base along the way. Rush is a strong contemporary example of the investment of dialysis then the success of a kidney transplant each and every time he performs. His diagnosis is prevalent in minority communities and should make a great difference in perceptions of what the miracle of transplant allows one to be able to do.

Every year, the world’s premier electronic dance music festival, the Ultra Music Festival, takes place at Bayfront Park in Downtown Miami and all the finest artists from around the globe make their way down to show off their skills.  The height of electronic talents

This is the third year in a row that the event has sold out in quick time and will be held in conjunction with the Winter Music Conference.  The UMF is in its 13^th year and has made great moves from its launch in 1999. Expanding from a small low key one day festival event, to the three day extravaganza that took place last year, its growth is evidence of the growing presence of electronic dance music (EDM) in the mainstream charts.  

Bayfront Park is a huge urban space, ideal for the massive festival to takeover. The Amphitheater has space for 10,000 people and the Tina Hills Pavilion is more intimate, with space for just 1,000. This may well be where some of the up and coming acts get their first taste of festival.  

Deadmau5 hits back

Not everybody is a fan of the huge Ultra Music Festival, although we can’t see why. Electro-trance artist and producer Joel Zimmerman (better known as deadmau5) has slammed the festival in a ranty YouTube video for its ticket prices and contractual agreements involved in performing at the event. It’s obvious his words have fallen on deaf ears as fans have already bought their tickets in the thousands despite of this. The UMF attracts fans and artists from around the world and many historic remixes and tracks have been first performed at this legendary festival. It seems Zimmerman is the lone voice, bemoaning the event and his words have done little to distract fans of EDM.

A closer look at the Winter Music Conference

The Winter Music Conference is one of the largest music industry conventions specialising in the electronic genre. Founding in 1985, the conference has served as a launch pad to spur on DJs and professionals from the electronic dance music genre into greater success and potential stardom. Many of the major agency deals take place at the Winter Music Conference, where young prodigies sign their future to a label that can make it happen and learn all about the industry from the experts. It’s expected over 50,000 delegates will attend the conference in March, with 500 separate events taking place during the week. One of the most anticipated events are the panels and seminars where topics and questions can be posted to experts and newcomers can learn everything they need to know about their future career, from the people who know it.

Artists to look out for in 2012

There are some obvious heavyweights attending the UMF such as Guetta, Tiesto and Fatboy Slim but there are hundreds more acts who are worth taking in. UK drum and bass legends Chase and Status are a definite must see as they combine musical performance with their DJ sets. Canadian Dubstep DJ Datsik is another artist who will make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck. Knife Party, the new electro-house carnation of Australian chart-storming Pendulum are set to be one of the leading EDM acts of 2012, so their set at UMF may be a sign of things to come.

Miami is a perfect host for the finest EDM music worldwide and the Bayfront Park setting is the perfect setting for the event. With years of experience behind them the festival’s founders are set to make this year’s event even more successful than the last and then perhaps next year, tickets will sell out even faster.

Somewhere I heard a rumor that a Walmart might be opening up in Midtown. I did not believe it and so made no effort to check into this statement. This morning I saw it mentioned in my Twitter feed along with a petition to sign. Without hesitation I signed the petition and hope you will too.

The parade took place on December 10th on a 3-acre private lot on 22nd Street and N.W. Second Avenue. From there parade goers went to Wynwood Walls Art Compex. Live music was by the Gold Doust Lounge.

The Wynwood parade does not replace the Coconut Grove Parade. This year the 30th Annual Coconut Grove King Mango Strut Parade takes place on Saturday, December 31st at 2p.m.
