Friends of the Miami-Dade Public Library 10×10 Challenge
The Friends of the Miami-Dade Public Library has launched the Ten By Ten Challenge. Now through October 10, 2010, the goal is to get 10,000 people to donate $10 dollars each to raise $100,000 which will help support library programs.

The Friends of the Miami Dade Public Library is dedicated to furthering library excellence through the advancement of library initiatives utilizing a three-dimensional approach:
Advocacy: build an active and informed base of library champions that will providegrassroots support at the county, state, and national levels to advocate on behalf of the interests of the Miami Dade Public Library System and the people it serves.
Volunteer assistance: provide access to a pool of volunteer support for both branch programming activities and system-wide Friends activities.
Fundraising: provide supplementary funds that help sponsor Library programming and staff development.
The Friends is a 100% volunteer organization with one paid employee. There is a Board of Trustees to oversee the Friends’ operations, and the Friends continue to advocate on the Library’s behalf at the local, state and federal levels. Friends funding supports activities ranging from Homework Help Centers to Black History and Hispanic Heritage Month Celebrations, to Curtains Up!, a live theatre series, and various traveling are exhibitions. During the past decade the Library System has brought to South Florida historical, archeological and art exhibits from around the world, including Peru, Bolivia, Brazil,Argentina, Colombia, and Germany. Since 2001 the Friends have partnered with the Miami-Dade Cultural Affairs Council and the Miami-Dade Sister Cities Program for the purpose of an international cultural exchange project entitled The Art of Storytelling, working with library systems worldwide. Funds to support programming and other initiatives are raised through membership, donations and an Annual Book Sale.
