CCEMiami MICROTHEATER – NOW THRU JULY 8TH

MICROTHEATER is an innovative theatrical format consisting of the representation of small plays, 15 minutes long each, for a small number of spectators, no more than 15, performed in a small space (room) in which the audience experiences a close interaction with the actors.

After the success of the first season “ For Money” they are presenting a new series of short plays with the theme “For the Future”. The 8 short plays are by important writers, directors and actors from Miami. They are in English and in Spanish involving all theatrical genre.

Last night I attended MICROTHEATER in what they call their MICRODEBUT at CCEMiami (Centro Cultural Espanol). For a couple of hours I was allured into the alternative realities of delicious, simultaneously executed short plays written, directed, acted by talented students attending local Arts and Theater Colleges .

The concept of MICROTHEATER, masterminded a few years ago by innovative Spanish directors is simply brilliant, and of great appeal to fast paced cultures.

For 15 minutes I was totally immersed in what became a novel, inspiring, funny, serious or simply entertaining reality. It was acted by pleasing, happy or scary actors, always ingenious and convincing.

After each show, just as I finished swallowing the tasty morsel of that experience, I was rushed to the exit and quietly escorted to a new line where I awaited with delight the start of the next 15 minute performance I had selected.

I love this kind of art, reaching out to me intimately, teaching me, scaring me, entertaining me. A great way to spend an evening.
