This is a very intriguing play and we thought we would give you a little peak at some of the magic tricks. Keep in mind that there is also music, singing, dancing and of course acting. Written and directed by The House Theatre of Chicago’s Artistic Director Nathan Allen, DEATH and HARRY HOUDINI delivers a roller coaster ride through the life of the great magician, Harry Houdini, and his life-long battle against Death. House Company Member and award-winning magician, Dennis Watkins, performs Houdini’s most renowned and dangerous escape—the dreaded Water Torture Cell—in this dark and tumultuous story guaranteed to keep audiences on the edge of their seats. DEATH and HARRY HOUDINI plays in the intimate Carnival Studio Theater (Ziff Ballet Opera House) from April 26 – May 20, 2012 as part of the Theater Up Close season.

Art Wynwood took place on President’s Day Weekend, February 16 – 20th, 2012. Held in the spacious 100,000-square-foot Art Miami Pavilion, which attracted more than 55,000 attendees during the 2011 edition of Art Miami, the inaugural five-day International Contemporary Art Fair will showcase a compelling array of cutting-edge, contemporary and modern artwork by both emerging and established artists from more than 50 galleries, including “the flying murals of Wynwood” commissioned by the district’s own Tony Goldman.

Art Wynwood featured paintings, photography, sculpture, art video and new media, conceptual art and urban street art by 500 artists from 13 countries: Argentina, Austria, Canada, China, France, Germany, Ireland, Mexico, Spain, the Netherlands, Venezuela, United Kingdom and the United States. With representation from 100 cities from around the world, including 50 across the U.S., Art Wynwood will further distinguish the Wynwood Arts District as a leading cultural destination for acquiring contemporary art. A VIP Private Preview was held in celebration of the opening on Thursday, February 16, 2012.

“This is a very exciting time and opportunity for the Wynwood Arts District, as well as Miami, our organization, exhibitors and the international community of art collectors who vacation or call South Florida home during President’s Day Weekend,” said Nick Korniloff, Director and Partner of Art Wynwood. “Art Wynwood will further ignite the Wynwood Arts District urban revitalization by providing a high quality, standalone International Contemporary Art Fair that will garner international recognition for the district and deliver a positive economic impact for many years to come.”

Capturing the essence of what the Wynwood Arts District and the Miami Art scene have to offer is paramount. Notably, Tony Goldman, who has been a driving force in the evolution of the arts and warehouse district of Wynwood, will exhibit what he describes as “the flying murals of Wynwood” in the fair’s VIP Lounge. Under his guidance, six 8′ x 24′ murals by international artists, including a Retna work from the Janet and Tony Goldman Collection, an existing piece from How & Nosm, as well as new murals from DAZE, Aiko and Futura, will be installed. Goldman will also be an integral part of Art Wynwood’s soon-to-be-announced host committee, which will be comprised of industry leaders in the art, design and media worlds from Miami and beyond. He states, “We applaud the organizers of Art Wynwood for their decision to launch a new art fair in Miami next month. This is a wonderful example of how Miami – and specifically Wynwood – has evolved into a year round arts destination. I think I speak on behalf of the entire Wynwood community in welcoming and supporting Art Wynwood.”

Elizabeth’s Last Christmas Hurrah in Coconut Grove

Coconut Grove is a small village on Biscayne Bay that was the start of the City of Miami in the 1800′s. It is a tight knit group of artists and would-be bohemians (and a lot of attorneys). Elizabeth’s Christmas parties have brought together the young and old of the Grove for 35 of the last 37 years. This video is a tribute to Elizabeth. Go to the “last hurrah” party dinner with us and meet many of the longstanding Grove intelligentia.

Wynwood King Mango Strut Parade

After creating and organizing the Coconut Grove King Mango Strut 30 years ago, Glen Terry has done it again. He has started the 1st Annual Wynwood King Mango Strut and goLIVEmiami was there. Glen is famous for creating organic projects like this performance art parade that anyone can participate in. Social issues are the theme with a sarcastic tongue-in-cheek approach. Create your own one man/woman float or go in a group. Watch the beginning of what will surely become a world class underground event.

The parade took place on December 10th on a 3-acre private lot on 22nd Street and N.W. Second Avenue. From there parade goers went to Wynwood Walls Art Compex. Live music was by the Gold Doust Lounge.

The Wynwood parade does not replace the Coconut Grove Parade. This year the 30th Annual Coconut Grove King Mango Strut Parade takes place on Saturday, December 31st at 2p.m.

TangOcho Milonga 2nd Year Anniversary

goLIVEmiami has fun at TangOcho Milonga‘s 2nd Year Anniversary party in Miami’s Little Havana. It was a full house to celebrate their weekly Argentine Tango Dance Party which happens every Friday night here in Miami. Besides glimpses of the regular dancers, you get to see performances by professional tango dance couples Jeremias and Mariela, Mariano and Chantal, Diego and Pia. There are also belly dance performances by Liliana Barrera and Ingri Peraza.
